Now What?
WELCOME TO THE INTERNET
“Build it and they will come!” There was a time when that may have been true, but, in today’s world of tight budgets and battles for market share, careful planning is required. For example, if you’re developing a website you must budget not only for the cost of the site but also: marketing, maintenance and support just to name a few. The most important process to budget for is “SEO”, or search engine optimization. Have you ever used a search engine like Google or Yahoo? If you have then you know that millions of results can be returned. Most people rarely go beyond the first page of results before giving up. “SEO” techniques must be applied during the design and development process and maintained throughout the life of your website to earn a position in the uppermost results. Today a more appropriate statement would be, “Research the competition, plan it, build it, market it, maintain it and they will come!”.
Forgotten things from the past
DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE
Learn from other's mistakes. Many of our customers already have internet applications, frequently worked on by more than one developer, which they are unhappy with. The reasons are many. “SEO” techniques may not have been applied, or were applied improperly. The application may not be intuitive. The cosmetics (color, layout, style or feel) may give the visitor a feeling of un-professionalism. This is an important point, as many times this is the visitors first experience with you. That first impression can determine whether or not you acquire them as a customer. Remember they probably had over a million results returned by their favorite search engine. The point here is simple. When you’re choosing a developer, make sure they have the experience to assure that your application will be all you expected and more. There are 27 basic rules to “SEO” and most existing applications we have worked with have fewer then five applied properly.
